Biogas sources

Biogas is the mixture of gases produced by anaerobic digestion – the breakdown of organic material. The two principal sources of biogas for fuel production are anaerobic digestion (AD) plants and landfill sites which absorb significant tonnages of waste each year. Biogas produced by AD is less complex and has a higher methane content than that arising from landfill sites and the use of AD plants is therefore likely to increase.
